Jurassic Lake

Jurassic Lake: Fly Fishing Destination in Patagonia

What Makes Jurassic Lake Special?

Located in one of the most remote and wild corners of Argentine Patagonia, Jurassic Lake, also known as Strobel Lake, has established itself as a world-renowned fly fishing destination. This crystal-clear lake is not only a natural spectacle, but it is home to one of the most impressive rainbow trout populations on the planet.

Jurassic Lake has been recognized as an inaccessible but irresistible paradise for fishing lovers, thanks to its unique conditions that allow trout to grow to incredible sizes.

Experience this unique opportunity for fly fishing

Fishing at Jurassic Lake is not just a sporting activity, it is a transformative experience. The feeling of fighting a rainbow trout of epic dimensions in such an inhospitable and virgin landscape is something that remains etched in the memory of any angler.

Schools of trout swim along the shores, attracted by the larvae and scats that the waves constantly stir up. This creates a unique dynamic, where the trout seem to be in constant activity. There is nothing like casting a fly in these waters and feeling how a giant trout takes the lure with a force that challenges the skill of the angler.

Jurassic Lake Rainbow Trout: Giants of Crystal Clear Waters

What kind of Trout will I find here?

The rainbow trout that inhabit Jurassic Lake are, without a doubt, the real stars. This fish, which originated in North America, was introduced to the lake and, due to the exceptional conditions of the ecosystem, has adapted and prospered extraordinarily.

Unlike other trout, those in Jurassic Lake Argentina reach sizes that seem straight out of a fisherman’s tale. With weights exceeding 10 kilograms, these trout have been compared to steelheads for their great size and power. What makes them unique is their diet, based on larvae and an abundant source of scats that shake on the shores of the lake due to the impact of small waves. This constant and nutritious food, combined with the purity of the water and the isolation of the lake, encourages accelerated growth and exceptional health in these fish.

We had a wonderful day fly fishing in May with Juanito. I am new to fly fishing and my boyfriend is experienced, and Juanito was able to easily accommodate us both. We were at the end of the season and unfortunately did not catch anything, but it was still the highlight of our trip. The lunch was excellent (vegetarian option even provided upon request) and the overall experience was top notch! Price is very reasonable for a once in a lifetime experience in a beautiful place with a fantastic guide. We highly recommend!

I had a fantastic day with Trout Bariloche and their guide Juanito, who understood exactly when to help and when to step back. Top service, great local knowledge of the waters, where and what the fish would take. Dry fly fishing was great with several nice browns to the net. If you are in the area and look for great fishing, they are as good is it gets!

I had a great day fishing Rio Manso with Juanito in early December! I was a single female traveler with limited fly fishing experience, so Rio Manso was recommended for my skill level and it worked out great. I caught 10-15 fish, mostly rainbows and a brown, nothing huge but bigger than I usually catch in Maine so a big success in my book! Juanito was a great guide and gave very helpful and easy to follow tips to improve my casting and land the fish.

Great guide, beautiful river, plentiful trout. Our day drifting the Limay was productive and insightful. Juanito our guide took his time providing my wife with excellent casting instruction and took his time putting us over many good holds. Aside from that the river is beautiful and the weather was perfect. Juanito was also a font of local information and we had a wonderful time. Highly recommend

The guys at Trout Bariloche love what they do, and who can blame them?! Stunningly beautiful, crystal clear river, dropping through steep canyons and loaded with hungry, strong rainbows and browns. From the reservation process to the pick up, the instructions geared towards varied skill and experience levels, the onsite prepared lunches, dinners, and the top notch accommodations, literally every detail is considered. My 12 year old son and I had an absolutely fantastic, bucket list time fly fishing Argentina. We caught a ton of fish, vastly improved our skills and enjoyed every minute of it. We’re beyond appreciative of the staff and guides, and can’t wait to return. Best trip ever!

I had an absolutely fantastic day fishing the Rio Manso with Juan and Miguel. My fly fishing skills certainly required some improvement, and their tuition was patient and thorough, and I felt I improved significantly by the end of the trip. We caught fish pretty much non-stop for the entire day, surrounded by the most incredible Patagonian scenery. The lunch was also excellent. Easily one of the highlights of my 4 month trip in South America. Will definitely be booking another trip when I return to Argentina!
