We are Locals, We Were Born Fly Fishing in Argentina
Our fishing agency, with our expert guides, offers trips to the most outstanding spots in Argentine Patagonia. Depending on the season and experience level, there are options for all tastes. Some of the destinations where I have fished throughout my life are:
MANSO RIVER
We are the only fishing outfitters in the Manso River area. There is no fishing pressure here. If you’re looking for more trout, this is your river. Fly fishing in the Manso River region is little known due to its natural beauty, far from cities, as is our Glamping Fly Fishing Lodge. We fish with floating and sinking lines, dry and wet flies at different times of the season and throughout the day. The Manso River is mostly fished with floating lines and dry flies, an effective way to attract larger trout. You’ll find several stretches of the river where nymphs are especially effective, and in combination with a small stream, sight and drift fishing can be an excellent option.
LIMAY RIVER
Fly fishing on the Limay River is one of the most exciting experiences in Northern Patagonia. This wide, fast-flowing river flows from the Andes through crystal-clear waters, deep pools, and long stretches, ideal for catching large trout. The Limay is especially famous for its migratory brown trout, trophy specimens that return from the lakes to the river each spring, staying there throughout the fishing season until their return to the lake in March, April, and May. It is ideal for those seeking technical challenges and large catches with fly fishing in Patagonia.
COLLON CURA
The Collón Cura River is a tributary of the Middle Limay River; it’s one of the most beautiful rivers in Patagonia, with no access points in or out, and the only way to fish it is to camp. It has many shallow currents that flow into large pools where trout rest. Around February, there are migrations of puyen trout that can be imitated with small, light streamer-type flies, and the fishing is incredible. It’s a difficult river to access, which is why we organize expeditions there with camps. The landscape is stunning, and the flora and fauna are reminiscent of being in the middle of a national park.
FOYEL RIVER
The Foyel River is a long, meandering, fast-flowing river. It rises at the top of the mountains with icy glacial water, and as it reaches the valley, it transforms into a very calm river surrounded by willows. From the peaks to its mouth, the Foyel River invites fly fishing with various techniques, especially nymphing and wading. If you’re floating, we’ll get off the boat and continue walking; however, the boat is used solely for transportation on this river. We’ll be here to teach you a little more about each of the flies used to attract flies to this river and some tying techniques.
JURASSIC LAKE
Jurassic Lake, also known as Strobel Lake, offers some of the best fishing in all of Argentina because the trout that inhabit it reach great size and strength. One of the characteristics that has enabled this trout to grow so much is that the lake is very pure, clean, and has an abundance of food, allowing them to migrate in large schools from one place to another. These schools are distributed throughout the lake, and then there are many trout that are alone, sometimes the largest and have their own territory. While these trout also migrate to streams to reproduce, they are a distinct group of trout that reside in specific bays. We have the record of 12 kilograms, thanks to the persistence of our guides, who managed to catch that trout. We guarantee that we are always very close, every year, to seeing a bigger one.
Brook trout experiences
Crystal-clear streams, lagoons, and Patagonian mountain lakes complete the ecosystem and multiply the fishing opportunities. Among them are Lake Hess, with brook trout chasing small river trout near the shore, and the remote and almost magical Lake Fonck, where large trout abound in calm bays. We also explored Lake Mascardi, Lake Guillelmo, and Lake Roca, each with its own unique character and recommended fishing techniques. These lakes are always best experienced during the early season, in November and December, when the trout are swarming at the mouths of rivers and streams, and fishing is most successful with small streamers. Why? Fishing is more fun, and the bite is much more aggressive. You’ll find 1- to 2-kilogram brook trout in the bays and casting streamers along the shorelines.
